The Symfoni Story

The Symfoni Software products saw the light of day in 1994, shortly after Lotus had presented their new groupware, and the need for content applications arose. The Symfoni-solutions earned a solid client base in the 1990's, under then-owner Cinet AS. Merkantildata, later Ementor, further developed the solutions, and had 150,000 users in Norway by 2001.

The Finnish software company TJ Group bought the Symfoni products in order to build a Nordic distribution in 2002. TJ Group merged with German Gedys Software AG in 2004. At that, the current owners bought Symfoni's products and some of the TJ Group's applications together with the companies TJ Group AS and Gedys Software House AS. The goal was to create the leading house on the subject of collaboration software.

Symfoni bought the Danish company Mindcom ApS Danmark, and later Key2Know. The IBM software-based department gained a leading position on the subject in Denmark in 2007 at the takeover of IT Companion ApS in Aarhus.

In Norway, the expansion came naturally, along with Vever AS in May 2008, and the purchase of Informatikk AS Webpublisher product, with accompanying client base in 2005.

In Sweden, the Swedish Collaboration Software AB, established in 2006, merged with the listed IT-company Mandator AB (now a product of Fujitsu). When Fujitsu aquired Mandator AB, Symfoni bought 49% of their shares.

Karlstad-based Vever AB was purchased by Symfoni in May 2008, and joined location in Stockholm, Karlstad and Gothenburg. Vever AB became Symfoni Software AB, which is represented in the three aforementioned cities.

i-Seven AB (Malmø) and i-Seven A/S (Copenhagen) was a part of Symfoni in April 2011. This gives Symfoni a very good coverage of the important Øresund Region.

In june 2011 Symfoni acquired Rubik Solutions Group. With Rubik we are now present in 3 new countries; Finland, Belgium and Holland. We have about 200 employees sitting in 15 offices in 6 different countries.

The current number of clients in northern Europe is 1.000, while the number of end-users being around 800,000. Symfoni grew from grossing 19 million and a 2,4 million surplus in 2004 to 99 million and a 14,7 million surplus in 2009. (Figures in NOK)

The company has seen a 335% growth over the last five years, and entered the list of the 500 fastest growing technology businesses in EMEA, "Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMA" in 2010. The same year, Symfoni's products were also listed among Gartner's recommended software.
